High-ranking security officials from the police and administration of 15 districts on both sides of the Nepal-India border have decided to move forward by cooperating and coordinating with each other. The decision was taken at a joint coordination meeting held in Nepalgunj on Wednesday evening.
A high-ranking official who attended the meeting said that the high-ranking security officials of the two countries, who had gathered at Hotel Siddhartha View, had concluded that coordination and cooperation at the border should be further enhanced. He also said that the Indian side has demanded more security at the border with the Nepali side.
The security meeting was organized at the request of the Indian side to ensure peaceful conduct of Assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh, India in a few months and to discuss other issues in the border areas. Surya Bahadur Khatri said that the two sides were briefed on the current situation at the border and coordination and security at the coordination meeting.
Chief District Officer Khatri said that security officials of both the countries have agreed to provide strict security at the border during the Assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh, India and to prevent any kind of illegal infiltration.
In the coordination meeting, the officials of both the regions should pay special attention to maintain good relations between the people of Nepal-India border area, coordination and cooperation for controlling the rising crime in the border area, drug and illicit trafficking, human trafficking, undesirable activities in the border area. It is stated that an agreement has been reached on the issue including the need to stop it together.
