Biratnagar. “The Gen-Z movement is not merely an outburst of anger, but the foundation of a new political awakening,” researcher and writer Dr. Deepak Chaudhary said during an interaction program held in Biratnagar on Monday.
Speaking as the keynote speaker at the event organized by Sustainable Development and Peace Journey at Mahendra Hotel, Dr. Chaudhary highlighted unemployment and misgovernance as the root causes of the movement. He argued that the government’s decision to shut down social media was just a pretext, while the real crisis stemmed from power-hungry leadership, factionalism, and economic failures.
“The government’s crackdown only intensified the protests, but acts of vandalism against public property by some anarchic elements are condemnable,” Dr. Chaudhary emphasized.
Outlining the way forward, he suggested that transparency, accountability, technology-friendly education, job creation, easy access to public services, and the eradication of corruption should be national priorities. He further interpreted the ongoing debate on shifting toward a direct executive system as a core spirit of the Gen-Z movement, urging political parties to demonstrate concrete commitments within six months.
Other speakers, including senior physician Dr. S.N. Jha, cultural expert Dr. Baburam Timisina, former Mahendra Morang Campus head Dr. Saroj Chaudhary, and youth activist Bikram Dev, also stressed the need for political reform and changes in leadership selection.
Concluding the program, Dr. Chaudhary called on civil society to rise above partisan interests and play an active role, warning: “If the Gen-Z generation stops keeping watch, real change will never be possible.”
