Banke. Six days after taking charge as the new Chief of Banke District Police Office, Superintendent of Police (SP) Angur G.C. briefed the press about the district’s security situation following lapses during the recent Gen-Z protests.

SP G.C. emphasized that since its establishment, the Nepal Police has stood firm through political upheavals, conflicts, and transitional periods, always prioritizing the interests and aspirations of the people. He acknowledged the historic movement led by the Gen-Z generation, pledging that the police would respect its achievements while constructively contributing to their protection.

During the protests, two police vehicles, several motorcycles, the Traffic Police Office, two police posts, and a police beat in Banke were set on fire. Despite such incidents, SP G.C. said the police acted with sensitivity and restraint, even with very limited resources.

“The core duty of Nepal Police is to safeguard lives and property, enforce laws, and maintain peace and order,” SP G.C. stated, adding, “We remain professionally committed to being the center of public trust.”

He also assured that crime investigations would be scientific, result-oriented, and impartial, conducted in line with Nepal’s criminal justice system, existing laws, and international human rights standards.

Warning against those exploiting youth protests for personal gain by damaging historical sites, public property, and businesses, SP G.C. confirmed that individuals involved would be identified and brought under legal action. He added that a high-level commission has already been formed to probe the September 8 (Bhadra 23) incident, and actions will follow its recommendations.

Meanwhile, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Deepak Patali informed that 1,200 police personnel have been deployed across Banke, with plans to mobilize additional forces if needed during upcoming festivals.
